Last week the Milwaukee Brewers designated catcher Payton Henry for assignment. The move was made in correspondence with the team optioning Janson Junk down to the minors and adding Colin Rea to the 40-man roster. These moves were made due to Brandon Woodruff being placed on the injured list and the starting rotation being stretched thin during the middle of 13 games in a row without an off day.
With all of the shuffling around, Milwaukee ended up removing their third string catcher in Payton Henry from the 40-man roster. He has since cleared waivers and has been outrighted to Triple-A Nashville. This keeps him with the organization.

Henry was originally drafted by the Brewers in 2016. He was later used in the trade to the Miami Marlins that landed Milwaukee John Curtiss. As a Marlin Henry did get some big league experience, but Matt Arnold elected to re-acquire him via trade during this most recent offseason.
Currently the 25 year old has played in just five Triple-A games for Nashville. Additionally the Brewers 40-man roster only has two catchers on it. If anything were to happen to William Contreras or Victor Caratini, it would be interesting to see if the Brew Crew elect to either re-add Henry to the 40-man roster or go a different route.
