The Milwaukee Brewers called up Janson Junk yesterday as starting pitcher Brandon Woodruff was placed on the injured list with right shoulder inflammation. The move is retroactive to April 8. Craig Counsell announced following the teams Tuesday night victory that Janson Junk will get to start the rubber match against the Arizona Diamondbacks.

Who is Milwaukee Brewers starting pitcher Janson Junk?
Janson Junk was acquired during the offseason as a part of the Hunter Renfroe trade package that also landed Milwaukee Elvis Peguero, and Adam Seminaris. Junk, a right-handed starting pitcher, has limited major league experience and on the mound is a high spin rate pitcher with a fastball that sits in the 95-96MPH range. He also throws a curve and a slider.
To begin the 2023 season Janson Junk was optioned to Triple-A Nashville. He made two appearances prior to being called up to the Brewers. During those outings he started one game and worked in relief for another. All together he covered 10 innings, struck out seven, and had a 0.90 ERA.
Brandon Woodruff is expected to spend the minimum time possible on the injured list, so Janson Junk may only get one or two opportunities to pitch for the Brewers before he returns. It will be interesting to see how he performs during this time frame and if he can leave a significant enough impression to warrant staying longer or not.
