Milwaukee Brewers trade deadline addition Carlos Santana has made an impact both on the field and in the clubhouse. Since arriving the Brew Crew has gone on a tear that includes a 17-9 record during the month of August and a 2-0 start to September.
Following the teams Saturday night victory over the Philadelphia Phillies, which ensured that Milwaukee owns the playoff tie-breaker against them, Carlos Santana provided three observations regarding a shift in the team. He also discussed his belief in his teammates and his approach to helping secure wins.
Carlos Santana provides three observations regarding a shift in the Milwaukee Brewers amidst a great stretch of baseball.
“We have a great position right now. We’re trying to win the division. Every game is very important for this team. I can see the energy, the attitude, motivation. The energy in the last 20 games has been so different. We believe in this team.”
“My mentality is right now finish strong and help my team. Every at-bat, I’m focused on that pitch and not try to do too much. I feel much better. I’m seeing the ball well.
“Coming to a new team, new family, new clubhouse, new fans, new stadium so I have to try to finish strong and compete and help the most I can.”
On the field the change in energy and attitude can be seen a few different ways. Following each victory the Brewers infield gets in a huddle and dances. This started after the arrival of Carlos Santana. Additionally as a whole everyone is taking team at-bats that includes shortening up, making contact, and focusing on doing what is asked of them in that specific moment. If one player doesn’t come through they are using a next man up approach and pulling for one another to have success.
