The Green Bay Packers aren’t leaving any stone unturned to get better in 2024. The 2024 NFL Draft was spent focusing on the defense and offensive line. In fact, 9 of their 11 draft picks addressed those two areas of need.
Now the Packers are turning to a possible “outside the box” athlete for their defense.
The Green Bay Packers Bring In Jamaican Athlete For Rookie Opportunity

According to Caribbean National Weekly:
Jamaican shot putter and discus thrower Roje Stona has made strides toward a potential professional football career in the NFL after receiving invitations to attend rookie mini camps hosted by both the Green Bay Packers and the New Orleans Saints.
Standing at an imposing 6 feet 6 inches and weighing 270 pounds, Stona aims to transition into the role of defensive end despite lacking any prior competitive football experience.
Described in a scouting report by NFL analyst Lance Zierlein as possessing an “NFL body type and traits,” Stona’s background as a track standout has highlighted his explosive athleticism and physical attributes. With experience in discus and shot put throwing, Stona boasts impressive hip explosiveness, above-average core strength, long arms, and sizable hands.
Would Rojé Stona Be Able To Contribute To The Packers’ Defense?

In Green Bay, the edge defender position will evolve to defensive end under Jeff Hafley, which focuses on rushing the quarterback. In an effort to get just that bit faster, it woulnd’t be surprising if some defensive ends trimmed some weight off their frames.
How does that impact Preston Smith, the outside linebacker praised by the coaching staff for dropping into coverage?
Unlike what the system typically demands, Smith does not act as a pure pass-rusher. It might be worth having a conversation about whether Smith should remain on the team’s current deal in 2024, as he will make $12.4 million in cash. It wouldn’t be surprising if something changes to Smith’s contract.
If Stona’s raw talent is enough to persuade the Packers’ to give him a shot to make an impact on the defense it would be possible for them to offer a contract.
