The Milwaukee Brewers and Chicago Cubs will meet for the first time during the 2024 regular season on Friday, May 3. This three game series will be played at Wrigley Field and it will be the first encounter between Craig Counsell and his former team. Here we will preview the series that includes game times and probable starting pitchers.
Milwaukee Brewers (19-11) News.
The first month of the Pat Murphy managerial era was an interesting one. Milwaukee is playing with a chip on their shoulder and as a team they have been involved in a pair of benches clearing incidents. As a result of what happened against Tampa Bay Pat Murphy will be sitting out game one of the Cubs series as he serves the final game of his suspension.
Outside of that the Brewers are getting contributions from numerous players on offense despite Christian Yelich being remaining with a back injury. Prospect Tyler Black has provided a spark during his first two big league games and Willy Adames has hit three home runs over that same stretch.
Chicago Cubs (19-13) News.
Coming off a four game series split against the Mets the second place Cubs now will be turning their attention to the team that they trail in the division by a game. Despite the split they have a lot of momentum coming into this series as their 18 wins are the most in March/April in franchise history and they have been getting solid contributions from several players while having to deal with numerous injuries to begin the year.
Offensively Michael Bush leads the team in home runs with six and him plus two others (Cody Bellinger and Christopher Morel) are tied for the team lead in runs batted in with 17. Pitching wise Shota Imanaga has been outstanding to begin his MLB career, but he is not scheduled to pitch in this series.
Probable starting pitchers and game times.
- Friday May 3 1:20 PM CT: Joe Ross (5.40 ERA) vs Hayden Wesneski (0.87 ERA)
- Saturday May 4 1:20 PM CT: Tobias Myers (4.50 ERA) vs Jameson Tailon (1.50)
- Sunday May 5 1:20 PM CT: Freddy Peralta (3.21 ERA) vs Javier Assad (1.97 ERA)
One contingency regarding the probable starting pitchers is Freddy Peralta. He was suspended five games during the Tampa Bay Rays series. Peralta is currently appealing the decision.
