The Green Bay Packers are on the rise. But while most of the credit to that has been given to Jordan Love and the rest of the roster, the young quarterback wants everyone to know it wouldn’t have been possible without head coach Matt LaFleur and his coaching staff.
Green Bay is currently in contention for a Wild Card spot in the NFC, having won their last three games and four of their last five. Even better, their previous two victories are against top teams in their respective divisions. After taking down the NFC North leaders Detroit Lions in Week 12, they proceeded to take care of business against AFC West top seeds Kansas City Chiefs.
Love’s strong play during their winning streak is a big reason for their success, but the 25-year-old quarterback knows when to give credit when it is due. While speaking to reporters on Wednesday, Love emphasized that LaFleur and his crew are equally responsible for what they have done in recent weeks.
“I think Matt and the coaching staff have been doing a great job. The same thing that goes for us, goes for them,” Love shared, via Jason Wilde of the La Crosse Tribune.
“I think they’re getting a lot more comfortable understanding what exactly we need to do, who we need to put in certain position, and they’re doing a great job throughout the week putting us in these awesome positions to go out there and execute and get guys open. They’ve been doing an awesome job.”
Matt LaFleur certainly deserves commendation for guiding the Packers back to relevance. When they traded Aaron Rodgers and ushered into the Jordan Love era, many expected it to be bumpy. And bumpy it was, with the team starting the season with a 2-5 record.
LaFleur, however, didn’t panic and let Love grow into his role. And sure enough, it paid off faster than expected, with the Packers climbing to 6-6 to keep their postseason hopes alive.
Jordan Love: Is He the Packers’ Next Franchise Quarterback?
True enough, Jordan Love is right to give credit to Matt LaFleur and the rest of the Packers coaching staff. But let’s be honest, it wouldn’t have been possible as well if Love didn’t stay patient and consistently worked on his game.
So far in the 2023 season, Love has tallied 2866 yards and 22 touchdowns on 61.3 percent pass completion. He is also taking care of the ball better. While he already has 10 interceptions on the season, he didn’t register a turnover in the last three games.
Overall, Love has four games without a turnover and could soon join the likes of Aaron Rodgers and Brett Favre as the only Packers QBs with five or more games without an interception in a season.
Love is indeed transforming himself into the quarterback that could carry the Packers in the years to come, and the Cheeseheads couldn’t wish for anything better than that.
