The Green Bay Packers made a statement with their epic Week 13 win over the Kansas City Chiefs last Sunday. Matt LaFleur, however, doesn’t want his players to be complacent after beating the reigning champions.
After all, as LaFleur said, there is still a lot of work that needs to be done for the Packers to prove that they are legitimate Super Bowl contenders.
In a one-on-one interview with Packers reporter Larry McCarren, LaFleur opened up about the team’s 27-19 victory over the Chiefs and how important it is to them. While the veteran head coach was full of compliments for his quad’s performance, calling it a “great team win,” he emphasized that the season doesn’t end there.
“That was a great team win. Every face, obviously, had a significant impact on the game. So proud of our guys. I feel like we’re coming together as a football team, and we’re getting better and better and better,” LaFleur shared when asked about the Packers’ wire-to-wire game and win over the Chiefs.
“But we got to continue to prove it, because it’s only one game. That is a damn good football team. Got a lot of respect for their coaches and players,” the Packers coach added.
Packers Bag Back-to-Back Statement Wins
The Packers are currently on a three-game winning streak, and while they are 6-6 on the season so far, there is plenty of reason to believe that they are on the rise.
Aside from their incredible display against the Chiefs that saw Jordan Love throw for 267 yards and three touchdowns to outshine Patrick Mahomes, they also beat the Detroit Lions in their previous duel in Week 13. That means the Packers have now beaten two teams that are on top of their respective divisions.
The Packers have little room for error with five games remaining in the 2023 season. They are still in the running for a Wild Card berth in the NFC, though topping the division isn’t out of the question if they are able to win their last few matches.
For now, the Packers can only take it one game at a time. They play the New York Giants next in Week 14, which should be a good opportunity for the team to continue their winning streak.
