Green Bay Packers quarterback Jordan Love is taking responsibility for his botched final pass that erased any chance of a comeback against the San Francisco 49ers in the divisional round.
For those who missed it, the Packers had one final shot to win the game against the 49ers. After San Francisco took the 24-21 lead off a Christian McCaffrey rushing TD with over a minute left in the fourth quarter, Green Bay still had some time to score.
With 52 seconds remaining, however, Love shockingly took a risky pass to the middle of the field where there were plenty of defenders. He was targeting Christian Watson, but the ball never connected to the wide receiver after 49ers linebacker Dre Greenlaw intercepted it.

The crucial interception effective sealed the win for the 49ers, leaving the Packers with no shot for redemption.
Speaking to reporters following the loss, Love admitted that his mistake is a “mortal sin,” especially since it ended up costing them the game. While it’s unsure if they would have been able to score, it would have been better had they at least gotten the opportunity to try it.
“That’s an area right there I’ll be able to look at, grow from and get better in the future,” Love promised after his failed throw, per Zach Jacobson of Packer Report.
Jordan Love Breaks Down What Happened on Botched Green Bay Packers Pass
For what it’s worth, Jordan Love did share his thinking behind pulling the trigger on the pass. The Green Bay Packers were on a first-and-10 situation, and considering the time left, there was no need for him to rush the pass. According to the young quarterback, though, he really thought he could complete it.
Love noted that he didn’t notice the backside of the field, which was his biggest error since if affected his judgment on the pass.
“Play broke down, I was scrambling right, saw Christian over the middle, and tried to force one into him. I thought I could make the play. I didn’t see the backside. They made a great play,” Love furthered, via Jason B. Hirschhorn of The Leap.
Hopefully, Love learned his lesson. It might be a rookie mistake, but it’s also wrong to blame one play for the defeat. At the end of the day, it was a total team collapse for the Packers.
