The Green Bay Packers are on the brink of inking Joran Love to a massive contract extension. Many are projecting his contract to be within the top ten highest quarterbacks paid in the NFL. That would put the floor of his contract around $40M annually.
However, the Packers aren’t the only NFC North team who is committing to a massive contract this off-season.
Green Bay Packers Rival Commits To Record-Breaking Contract
According to Dave Birkett of The Detroit Free Press:
Amon-Ra St. Brown was the steal of the 2021 NFL draft, he has improved statistically every season and now he’ll be a Detroit Lions receiver for the foreseeable future.
St. Brown signed a four-year contract extension worth more than $120 million with the Lions on Wednesday that makes him the highest-paid receiver in football in average annual value, according to a source close to the situation. The source requested anonymity because they are not at liberty to discuss the deal in public.
St. Brown will earn $77 million guaranteed, according to NFL Network.
Other top receiver contracts per year: Tyreek Hill ($30 million), Davante Adams ($28 million), Cooper Kupp ($26.7 million) and Mike Evans ($26 million). Justin Jefferson is expected to sign a new deal that will eclipse St. Brown’s market-setting contract.
The Packers Secondary Will See Amon-Ra St. Brown Twice A Year For A While
In many ways, St. Brown represented the gritty attitude HC Dan Campbell wants his players to exhibit. As a rookie he caught 90 passes for 912 yards. In addition, he’s only gotten better since then.
As a result of a stellar campaign, St. Brown was selected to the first team of the All-Pro team in 2024.It was a career-high 119 receptions for 1,515 yards and 10 touchdowns for him.In addition, he helped Detroit win its first playoff game in decades. In the postseason, their postseason run together really hammered home how much St. Brown has become a favorite target of quarterback Jared Goff.
He is going to be a cornerstone of that offense for a long time. The Packers have done a relatively good job of containing the electric wide receiver. In six games against the Packers, Amon-Ra St. Brown has 35 catches for 382 yards and two touchdowns.
He has only gone over 100 yards in a game once against Green Bay. That came on January 9th, 2022. With the Packers’ revamped secondary, this will surely be a fun battle to watch for years to come.
