Break out the brooms, Brewers’ fans. The Milwaukee Brewers shutout the San Diego Padres last night behind a historic performance from Corbin Burnes. Billy McKinney has homered in two straight games, and Travis Shaw is on pace for 157 RBI. The Brewers, now 10-7 and tied for first in their division, are looking for their first series sweep of the season. The fact that it is against the highly-touted Slam Diego Padres is nothing short of impressive, especially since the Padres have just one run in this series.
Brewers’ Starting Pitcher: Adrian Houser
The Brewers will turn to Adrian Houser following dominant performances by Brandon Woodruff in Game One and Burnes last night. Houser is 1-2 on the season with a 3.14 ERA. He won his only other road start of the season, a 9-5 victory over the St. Louis Cardinals. In that start, Houser pitched five innings and did not allow an earned run.
Not many Padres’ players have faced Adrian Houser in the past. Victor Caratini has faced him eight times, but is only hitting .125 against him. Houser will have to limit his walks if the team is to be successful today. The Padres entered the series leading the NL in walks. Houser has walked seven in three starts, including four against St. Louis.
Padres’ Starting Pitcher: Dinelson Lamet
Dinelson Lamet is making his 2021 debut. He started the season on the injured list, but is coming off of a highly successful 2020 season. Last year, Lamet was 3-1 with a 2.09 ERA and 93 strikeouts. He finished fourth in the NL CY Young voting.
Only five Brewers players have at bats against Lamet in the past: Keston Hiura, Travis Shaw, Daniel Vogelbach, Jace Peterson, and Omar Narvaez. Hiura has a home run against him in the past.
