We are finally less than a week until the 2024 NFL Draft! The Green Bay Packers are making their final preparations before the the three day event begins in Detroit next Thursday. Round 1 will be Thursday, rounds 2-3 Friday, and 4-7 Saturday.
In the first two mock drafts I’ve done, I’ve been pretty consistent with taking best player available at pick 25, and then taking needs next, then fill in pieces at the end. I decided to stick with Pro Football Focus and their three round mock draft. The Green Bay Packers have five picks in those rounds. Here is how my third mock draft ended up.
Green Bay Packers Pick 25- Kool-Aid McKinstry
This was a tough pick right away. It was between McKinstry and Johnny Newton. Newton, the defensive lineman from Illinois, is probably the best overall player at this position. For what it’s worth, I don’t think Newton will be there at pick 25 Thursday night.
Because of this, it seems like McKinstry is sliding a little bit as of late and would be the best player available if there. McKinstry is seen by many as the second best corner in this draft after Toledo corner Quinyon Mitchell. I think this is a best player available at a sneaky position of need.
Pick 41- Tyler Nubin
It’s not a good safety class, but Tyler Nubin is the best safety in this draft. Despite the strength of the position, the Green Bay Packers need a safety and that safety needs to likely start week one next to Xavier McKinney. Nubin had a stellar career at Minnesota and has a nose for the football. Pick 41 would not be a reach either as I think he would be gone if the Packers passed on him twice.
Pick 58- Edgerrin Cooper
Cooper has been my favorite inside linebacker in this draft for quite some time now. He is seen as one of the best inside linebackers in the draft too. I am not sure if Cooper will be there at 58, but I do think the Green Bay Packers will trade up at some point in the draft. They have a ton of picks and don’t need all of them. Their five picks in the top 100 is some of the best capital of all the teams. This could be a player I think Green Bay could also trade up for to solidify a starter for a position of need.
Pick 88- Xavier Thomas
The Green Bay Packers don’t necessarily need an edge rusher, but I also think they can take one to add some depth. Kingsley Enagbare likely won’t be ready for the start of the season and Preston Smith is potentially in his last year with Green Bay. A young edge rusher like Thomas, who has a 8.09 RAS score and former five star high school recruit, could help the Packers right away.
Pick 91- Dominick Puni
Green Bay needs to add some offensive line depth and some competition. Puni has started 41 games in his career between left tackle, right tackle, and left guard. Add in his 8.27 RAS score and this has all the feels of a Green Bay Packer. A versatile offensive lineman not only ends up in Green Bay, but will usually play early too.
