The Milwaukee Brewers and all other MLB teams are not even one month into the 2024 regular season, but some assumptions towards future needs can be made. For the Brew Crew they lost a lot of top end starting pitching talent this off-season (Corbin Burnes traded, Adrian Houser traded, and Brandon Woodruff re-signed but won’t pitch this year due to recovering from shoulder surgery). If they are in contention for a playoff spot at the trade deadline that is one area they could be looking to improve upon.
Here we will take a look at three way to early trade targets that would help bolster the Milwaukee Brewers starting rotation.
-
Milwaukee Brewers trade target #1: RHP Ross Stripling

Last winter Ross Stripling exercised a $12.5 million player option for the 2024 season with the San Francisco Giants, but they subsequently traded him to the Oakland Athletics. Stripling now finds himself pitching for a team that is unlikely to compete for a playoff spot and he is in a contract year. This makes him a good trade candidate in which the 34 year old has been solid throughout his nine year big league career and has a 4.00 ERA overall.
-
Milwaukee Brewers trade target #2: RHP Trevor Williams

32 year old Trevor Williams signed a two year, $13 million deal with the Washington Nationals prior to the 2023 season. He is due $7.0 million this year and similar to Stripling is not on a team expected to be in playoff contention. The Brewers are familiar with him from his days with the Pittsburgh Pirates and he again could be a solid option to add to their rotation.
-
Milwaukee Brewers trade target #3: RHP Mike Clevinger

Mike Clevinger signed a late contract this year to return to the Chicago White Sox for just $3 million. The 33 year old made 24 starts in 2023 and pitched to a 3.77 ERA. By the time he gets back to pitching in the big leagues and refines his stuff on the mound he may be a prime trade candidate with less yearly mileage on his arm. This makes him an intriguing option to consider trading for.
A lot can happen between now and the trade deadline at the end of July, but if the Brewers are pushing for a playoff spot adding some starting pitching around that time is a real possibility.
