Wisconsin Badgers Chucky Hepburn entered the transfer portal on Thursday right after A.J. Storr committed to the Kansas Jayhawks after he entered the transfer portal earlier in the offseason. Last season with Wisconsin, Hepburn averaged 9.2 PPG, 3.3 RPG, 3.9 APG, 0.1 BPG, and 2.1 SPG in 35 games played.
Chucky Hepburn shot 42.9% from the field and also 32.2% from the field. With Hepburn going into the transfer portal, this came as a surprise to a lot of people. A lot of people thought he was going to return for his senior season with the Badgers.
Now, Wisconsin is going to have to replace his production for next season. Hepburn is 6’2″ and weighs 195 lbs. One of the schools that is interested in Hepburn is BIG10 rival, Michigan State Spartans. This would upset the Wisconsin Badgers fanbase even more as if it hasn’t already upset them enough that Hepburn is leaving the school.
Former Wisconsin Badgers Chucky Hepburn Is the Third Player This Offseason To Transfer From the Program
This is not the first player to transfer from Wisconsin this offseason. Connor Essegian and A.J. Storr were the other two players to leave. Essegian has yet to commit to another school for next season and Storr was one of the best players on the Badgers last season and now will have a chance to compete for a National Championship with the Kansas Jayhawks.
Chucky Hepburn in the transfer portal signifies one thing. Head coach Greg Gard should be on the hot seat entering the 2024-2025 season. Wisconsin went one-and-done in the NCAA Tournament against the James Madison Dukes. This could be one of the reasons why players are entering the transfer portal but another reason could be NIL money.
No matter how you slice it, the program could very well be in trouble for the 2024-2025 season. There were some players that the Badgers were interested in when it came to the transfer portal who were close to Hepburn. The program can forget about getting those players now and may not even land anyone in the transfer portal.
This feels like an exile for those players wanting to go somewhere better. The sad thing is that Hepburn might not be the last player that will leave the Badgers this offseason. If they can’t get any replacements in the transfer portal, well there are discussions to be had and they are already under way.
