Apart from trying to fill Aaron Rodgers’ shoes in terms of the elite skillset he brings to the table, new Green Bay Packers QB1 Jordan Love will also need to step into a critical leadership role in just his third season in the NFL. There appear to be no issues for Love in this area, though, as Packers star running back Aaron Jones spoke highly of the young quarterback’s noteworthy leadership qualities.
Green Bay Packers RB Aaron Jones Lauds Jordan Love’s Leadership
Jones recently guested on The Rich Eisen Show and naturally, Jordan Love was a prominent subject in their conversation. When asked to discuss Love’s leadership skills, Jones looked back at a specific incident in practice that perfectly embodies the type of leader the young quarterback is:
“One of the practices, the offense we weren’t having that good of a day, and Jordan just stopped everything we were doing and called us up and kinda let the offense have it a little bit. Not in a bad way but like, ‘C’mon, we gotta pick this up. Is this what we want to be?’ And all the guys were like, ‘No, of course not.’
“Him just having a voice, everybody respecting what he’s saying. When he speaks, everybody listens.”
Jordan Love is clearly not the type who shies away from these types of moments. He knows that it’s his job as the team’s talisman to call out the offense when necessary, and despite the fact that he’s one of the younger players on the squad, he has no issue with calling a spade a spade.
According to Jones, he immediately commended Love for his actions:
“I told him right after he did it,” Jones said. “That’s we needed. It can’t always come from the same person. If it always comes from me it might sound like beating a dead horse. But if it comes from somebody else who’s very well-respected and the leader of our team, then those guys are gonna listen. Not to say that they won’t listen to me or anything but when it’s your quarterback, it’s your quarterback.”
Aaron Jones has some high praise for Love’s ability to lead the squad, and this obviously means a lot coming from one of the veteran leaders of this squad.
Jones also knows that apart from being a strong voice within the squad, Jordan Love is also able to back it up with his play on the field:
“He’s a heck of a quarterback,” Jones continued. “He’s athletic, he uses his legs as well. He brings a lot of different things to the game.”
Indeed he does.
