Green Bay Packers news: Packers fans have a lot to smile about after watching their team dominate the Cincinnati Bengals in their preseason opener, 36-19. Green Bay did go up against a shorthanded Bengals side that was missing the services of the injured Joe Burrow, among others, but the fact of the matter is that the Packers kicked off the post-Aaron Rodgers era on a high note.
Green Bay Packers News: Germaine Pratt Likens Jordan Love to Aaron Rodgers
One player who had a noteworthy performance for the Packers was Jordan Love. All eyes were on the young quarterback in his first official game as Green Bay’s QB1 after Aaron Rodgers took his talents to the New York Jets this summer. Amid all the pressure, Love rose to the occasion.
It’s not as if Love took the football world by storm in his preseason debut, though. In fact, the 24-year-old threw a pretty awful pass to Romeo Doubs that ended up getting intercepted by Bengals cornerback Mike Hilton. However, Love bounced back in a major way, finishing with 17-of-29 passing and two touchdowns.
All in all, Love was impressive in his first outing. So much so, that even Cincinnati linebacker Germaine Pratt had some praise for the opposing QB. Pratt, who himself has had the privilege of going up against the great Aaron Rodgers many times in the past, admits that he did see some shades of the four-time league MVP in his young successor:
“When he comes to the line making checks, he’s similar,” Pratt said, via Rob Demovsky of ESPN. “You being with a Hall of Fame quarterback, why not steal some of his game? I would do that. If there’s a Hall of Famer, I’m going to steal some of his game and apply it to mine.”
As Pratt said, Love has had the honor of learning from the very best. He’s clearly taken all this to heart, and he is now going to put it to the test once the new season begins. There’s going to be a lot of pressure on Jordan Love in 2023, but based on what we’ve seen from the young man thus far, it looks like he’s up to it.
