There was a slim chance that Khris Middleton would be able to suit up for the Milwaukee Bucks on Tuesday night against the Sacramento Kings. This is after the three-time All-Star was tagged as questionable to play after missing the last 14 games due to a left ankle sprain.
For some reason, however, the Bucks ultimately decided to downgrade Middleton to out just hours prior to Tuesday’s tip-off.
Milwaukee Bucks Coach Doc Rivers Speaks Out on Khris Middleton’s Injury Status
Bucks head coach Doc Rivers spoke to reporters an hour or so before Tuesday’s game. According to the tenured shot-caller, Middleton is closing in on his much-anticipated return to action:
“I don’t know,” Rivers said, via Eric Nehm of The Athletic. “It was probably because he was questionable. (Laughs) I don’t know. I think, yeah. There had to be a little bit, for sure. But he practiced yesterday. Looked really good, but not good enough yet, so.”
Unfortunately, Coach Doc wasn’t able to provide a clear-cut reason as to why Middleton was suddenly downgraded from questionable to out. Rivers did not mention anything about a setback, though, so at least Middleton appears to be safe in that regard.
Either way, it does seem like the 32-year-old forward is getting very close. Rivers noted that Middleton has been progressing in his activity at practice:
“He’s done some 2-on-2, some 3-on-3s. He’s looking better. He’s getting close,” Rivers said.
Middleton’s next chance to return will be on Thursday when the Bucks host the Philadelphia 76ers at the Fiserv Forum.
