Wisconsin hockey is at an all-time recent high after both the Men’s and Women’s programs claimed the top spots in the National rankings.
Wisconsin Women’s hockey is defending their National Championship from last year in style, starting off with an undefeated record at 12-0-0. The Wisconsin Men’s hockey team has a six-game win streak over ranked opponents and moved two spots in the rankings during their bye week. The Badgers Men’s team was last ranked first overall during the 2005-06 season after Wisconsin won the National Championship.
Wisconsin Hockey is Back On Top Following Incredible Win-Streaks, Intriguing Rankings
After two incredible starts, the Wisconsin Badgers hockey programs are back on-top. Wisconsin currently boasts the top ranking in both the men’s and women’s ice hockey rankings that were released this morning. The Wisconsin men’s hockey team received 32 of the 50 first place votes and received 969 points during the recent voting.
Currently, the Wisconsin hockey team is 9-1-0 while also making history during their magnificent start. The Badgers have won four straight games over top-five opponents for the first time since the ice hockey rankings began in 1997. Both Boston College and Denver were ranked ahead of the Badgers, but suffered losses this past week while Wisconsin hockey enjoyed their break.
For the Wisconsin women’s hockey team, the Badgers started off 12-0-0 after winning the National Championship a season ago. Wisconsin hockey has dominated thus far this season, winning games 16-1, 12-2, 9-0, and 8-1. The Badgers seem primed to make another serious run this season at the National Championship after catching back up to speed quickly.
What is Next for the Wisconsin Women’s Hockey, Men’s Hockey Programs?
While both of the Wisconsin hockey teams might be celebrating their significant rankings, there is still plenty of work ahead of them that needs to get done.
For the Wisconsin women’s hockey team, the Badgers are back in action November 17th and 18th against their rival, the Ohio State Buckeyes. Ohio State was a nemesis for the Badgers a year ago, but Wisconsin will have to get through their opponent this season to hold their ranking. The Badgers will host Minnesota Duluth December 2nd and 3rd to open the month.
For the Wisconsin men’s hockey team, the Badgers will visit #11 Michigan State in East Lansing to play their eighth and ninth consecutive games against ranked opponents. The Badgers have had quite the gauntlet thus far, but the only way to improve is to fight through it. Wisconsin will host Alaska Anchorage in Madison the following weekend for another two games.
