After a stellar few days in the transfer portal, the Wisconsin football staff capped off their run by adding linebacker Tackett Curtis from USC.
Curtis, a former four-star composite recruit in the 2023 recruiting class, announced last month he would enter the transfer portal following a 7-5 season with the Trojans. The true Freshman played a solid role for the Trojans this past season and finished the year in a starting role.
The linebacker now has joined the Wisconsin football program after contemplating his options in the transfer portal.
The Wisconsin Football Staff Lands Former Four-Star Linebacker Tackett Curtis from USC
Over a year ago now, the Wisconsin football staff once had their eye on Tackett Curtis, and nearly landed the recruit over USC and Ohio State. However, Curtis chose to become a Trojan after plenty of consideration, joining the seventh ranked recruiting class in the country.
Following a down year much of the USC roster hit the transfer portal, including fellow 2023 commitment Malachi Nelson. It did not take either portal entry long as both Nelson and Curtis have already found their homes for the 2024 season.
For Curtis, Wisconsin football was originally not in his plans following the tough season the Badgers went through. However, after Curtis had the chance to meet with Head Coach Luke Fickell, the linebacker better understood the direction Wisconsin football is going in. The Badgers set up a virtual meeting with Curtis just hours after his entry into the transfer portal and never looked back.
Curtis had been the top-rated linebacker in the transfer portal since entering back in early December. The standout defender will now have his chance to take Wisconsin football back to the top of the Big Ten Conference.
Wisconsin Badgers Football Gets ‘Their Guy’ on the Defensive Side of the Ball
If there is one thing that can get players fired up, it is the energy that a coach exudes while leading his team. Following his commitment, Curtis was quick to suggest that he is excited to play for the Badgers defense and Coach Fickell next season.
Previously when Wisconsin football recruited Curtis, the recruit stated he “…was not sure whether or not the staff would be there.” The linebacker had been referring to former Coach Paul Chryst, who was fired later that season. Now, the scenario is much different and the talented defender feels confident in the staff he will have around for the remainder of his collegiate career.
Tackett Curtis is an impact player with an eye for the ball carrier. Curtis not only makes plays that show up in the statistics book at the end of the game, but he also disrupts the offense with his presence. The linebacker is consistently around the ball, and when he is on the field the offense must worry about his football knowledge.
