Wisconsin Football Hires Former USC Defensive Coordinator Alex Grinch
Alex Grinch is joining Fickell’s staff in Madison according to the BadgerExtra report that has since been confirmed by various outlets. Grinch is joining the staff at UW after he was fired from his position as the USC Trojans defensive coordinator in November.
Grinch has been a longtime assistant to USC head coach Lincoln Riley. After serving as Ohio State‘s co-defensive coordinator for one season in 2018, Riley hired Grinch as his defensive coordinator at Oklahoma in 2019. When Riley left Oklahoma for USC in 2022, Grinch followed Riley to southern California.
Alex Grinch Brings Experience at Safeties Coach Position to Wisconsin Football
Grinch is a longtime defensive backs coach. Prior to his coaching days, he played safety at Mount Union University – a powerhouse NCAA Division III football program. Following his playing days, he coached defensive backs at New Hampshire, Wyoming, and Washington State. The Ohio native also coordinated the defense at Washington State from 2015-17.
Grinch was the safeties coach in addition to his coordinating roles at Ohio State, Oklahoma, and USC. He also coached safeties for three seasons at Missouri from 2012-2014.
