The Wisconsin football team is nearly about to embark on the second half of their first season under the leadership of Head Coach Luke Fickell.

With the new staff in place, the team has much more serious hopes than before. However, the Badgers have failed to reach their lofty goals after facing more growing pains than they anticipated. Despite the growing pains, the Wisconsin football team still has a solid chance at making a meaningful bowl game.

Wisconsin Badgers Football Receives Multiple Intriguing Bowl Projections Following Loss to Ohio State Buckeyes

After narrowly losing to the Ohio State Buckeyes, the Wisconsin Badgers football team has their morale at a new point. Wisconsin began the season exuding confidence, but between key injuries and losses, the Badgers have shifted their focus this season.

A team that once had their hearts set on a Big Ten title and playoff appearances has now accepted that their dreams must wait another year. The focus for the strong Badgers squad now is on making a statement in a bowl game. Sitting at 5-3, and 3-2 in the Big Ten, Wisconsin should be in for quite the match-up in their postseason game.

Wisconsin Football Projection #1: Guaranteed Rate Bowl vs. Florida Gators

The first possible match-up for the Wisconsin football team could be against a familiar foe. Last season, Fickell made his ‘debut’ for Wisconsin during their exciting victory over the Oklahoma State Cowboys. The Badgers may now have the chance to play against their former quarterback, Graham Mertz, in the postseason.

Mertz has bounced back this season with 2127 yards passing, 14 touchdowns, and two interceptions. Mertz also boasts a 66.1 quarterback rating as he has led the Florida Gators through a 5-3 start. The Gators, much like the Wisconsin football team, have also struggled to find their identity this season with a win over #11 Tennessee and a loss to Kentucky.

Wisconsin Football Projection #2: Cheez-It Citrus Bowl vs. Louisiana State Tigers

Tigers quarterback Jayden Daniels (5) runs the ball as LSU Tigers take on the Army Black Knights in Tiger Stadium in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, in October. 21, 2023.

In their short history playing against each other, the Louisiana State Tigers have defeated the Badgers three times and lost once. The most recent meeting came in 2016 when the Wisconsin football team pulled off the 16-14 upset over the fifth-ranked Tigers. Corey Clement led the Badgers with 86 yards rushing and a touchdown.

Fast-forward nearly seven years, and LSU has a fearsome squad led by arguably the top Heisman candidate, Jayden Daniels. Daniels is the life and the heart of the Tigers this season, as he has dropped in 25 touchdowns and added another five on the ground. Daniels is a one-of-a-kind player who would pose a significant threat to the Wisconsin Badgers defense.

Wisconsin Football Projection #3: Las Vegas Bowl vs. Utah Utes

Another potential bowl game opponent for the Wisconsin Badgers football team could be the Utah Utes. The Utes have also had an interesting season with wins over #18 USC and #22 UCLA. However, the Utes have also lost to #8 Oregon and #19 Oregon State in crushing fashion.

Utah loves to run the ball and utilize multiple rushers, which makes their offense difficult to stop. There is not one player to key in on and shut down, but there are some names to watch. Among them is Ja’Quinden Jackson, who is the leading rusher for the Utes and has recently become a bigger contributor for them.
