The Green Bay Packers addressed every position of weakness during the 2024 NFL draft. The offensive line and defense were hammered. 9 of their 11 draft picks addressed those two categories. Like every year, a multitude of un-drafted free agents sign with teams immediately following the conclusion of the seventh round.
This year the Packers signed a surprising Badger.
The Green Bay Packers Sign Former Wisconsin Badgers Player Following The 2024 NFL Draft
According to reporter Tom Silverstein:
UW Badgers LS Peter Bowden is signing un-drafted free agent deal with the Packers, source said.
Special Teams Will Once Again Be A Point Of Emphasis For The Packers This Year
Bisaccia became the NFL’s highest special teams coordinator back in February, 2022. Two years into Bisaccia’s tenure, this party has failed to impress.
Rick Gosselin ranked Green Bay 29th in 2023 after finishing 22nd in 2022 in his special teams rankings.
This continues the trend of Green Bay finishing dead last in special teams rankings five times (2005, 2006, 2014, 2018 and 2021) and between 26th and 31st six more times (2008, 2009, 2010, 2016, 2019, 2020 and 2023) in the past two decades.
We have seen the Packers lose in the playoffs largely due to special teams blunders over the last few seasons. While a long-snapper isn’t the “flashy” signing fans like, it could be a step in the right direction for an aspect of the team that needs work.
