The Wisconsin basketball team has seen another player exit the program as Gus Yalden is the third player to enter the portal.
Yalden, a Freshman forward, has entered his name into the transfer portal after a difficult first collegiate season. Yalden entered Madison with high hopes, but a slew of off-court issues kept the young man back. For Wisconsin basketball, the move for Yalden was something they had seen coming.
Wisconsin Basketball Forward Gus Yalden Enters Transfer Portal After One Season
Wisconsin basketball has had their third player this off-season enter his name into the transfer portal as Gus Yalden submits his paperwork. Yalden came into the program with plenty of hope and potential, but the forward found college basketball and the environment to be much different than his original thoughts. The Freshman fell out of favor with Head Coach Greg Gard following multiple run-ins with the campus Public Safety.
The forward took a leave of absence for a family matter early on in the season, and never played in a game for the Wisconsin basketball team. The Appleton native will enter the transfer portal with plenty of eligibility left, especially if he applies for a redshirt this season due to his lack of play.
Wisconsin Basketball Had High Hopes For Yalden, But Struggled To Achieve Them
There is certainly no doubt the Wisconsin basketball staff had high hopes for Yalden. The 6-foot-9-inch big man not only possesses a great physical stature, but also has incredibly smooth moves for someone his size. Yalden was considered to be the top recruit in this past class for Wisconsin, but will now be on the move after a difficult Freshman season.
Despite Transfer News, Wisconsin Badgers Basketball Expected A Move
While the transfer of Yalden might come as a surprise to some, it was a move that had been written in stone after how the season played out. Yalden struggled in his first year of college not just on the court, but also off the court with some issues involving the campus staff. The final ‘straw’ that seemed to be the nail in the coffin was the Wisconsin basketball staff announcing Yalden would not travel to Brooklyn for the NCAA Tournament.
Yalden is a great player, and an even better person, which is why he will find success at his next program.
