The Wisconsin Women’s basketball team is fresh off of arguably their most exciting and entertaining game this season. It was not one you wanted to miss when the Badgers came back from a 19-point deficit against the Southern Indiana Screaming Eagles.
Wisconsin got off to an awful start as they trailed the Screaming Eagles 44-25 at halftime as the shots all seemed to rim out for the Badgers. The Wisconsin Women’s team was able to crawl back into the game behind a tremendous performance from Serah Williams. Williams recorded 24 points, 11 rebounds, and seven blocks as her 14 free-throw attempts helped will the Badgers back into the game.
With their win over the Screaming Eagles, the Badgers have now advanced to the next round of the WNIT to face the Illinois State Redbirds. The Wisconsin Women’s basketball team has opened with a 56.7% chance to defeat the Redbirds, according to ESPN Analytics.
The Main Key to Victory In the Wisconsin Basketball Versus Redbirds Match-Up

In their tough match-up against the Redbirds, the key to play for the Wisconsin Women’s basketball team will come down to their star Serah Williams. Williams has been a dominant player in the paint for the Badgers this season, averaging a double-double with 18 points and 11.3 rebounds per game. Coming in at 6-foot-4-inches, Williams has proven to be a tough player for the majority of teams to defend.
However, the Redbirds have a dominant player inside as well as their star player DeAnna Wilson is not an easy girl to play against. Wilson is not as much of a rebounding force as Williams, but she is smooth in the paint and has an array of moves to get past her defender. The plan for the Redbirds is going to be feeding Wilson the ball, which means the Badgers will need their best play out of Williams to win.
With a Win, What Would Be Next For the Wisconsin Women’s Basketball Team?

For the Wisconsin basketball team, if the Badgers are able to secure a win over the Redbirds like they are projected to, the team will enter the Great Eight. Wisconsin will take on the winner of Purdue-Fort Wayne against Saint Louis in the next round.
Purdue-Fort Wayne entered play as one of the lowest seeds with a record of 23-12, but has already defeated both Eastern Kentucky and Cincinnati to get to this point. The Mastodons are a smaller team and look to defeat teams with their excellent outside shooting, which will be key in their upcoming game against Saint Louis.
The Saint Louis Billikens are also coming off two wins over Northern Iowa and Central Arkansas as they prepare to play against the Mastodons. The Billikens are led by physical forward Peyton Kennedy, who has proven to be not only a force in the paint, but also a capable long-range shot maker.
