The Wisconsin basketball staff has been in contact with a familiar foe who recently entered the transfer portal after a loss to Duke.
Terrence Edwards Jr, a Junior guard for the James Madison Dukes, scored 14 points and recorded five rebounds against the Wisconsin basketball team as he eliminated them from the NCAA Tournament. Following the James Madison loss to Duke, Edwards Jr announced he would enter the transfer portal, and quickly gained plenty of attention. According to The Portal Report, the Wisconsin basketball staff is among the programs that have displayed interest in Edwards Jr.
Wisconsin Basketball In Contact With Former James Madison Guard Terrence Edwards Jr
After losing to the Duke Blue Devils, the James Madison Dukes ended their season and their hopeful NCAA Tournament run. James Madison started their Tournament with a dominant win over the Wisconsin basketball team before running into a wall against Duke.
Shortly after the loss, one of the top players for the Dukes, guard Terrence Edwards Jr, entered the transfer portal. Edwards Jr averaged 17.2 points per game this past season, along with 4.4 rebounds and 3.4 assists on 42.7% shooting. The Junior guard had his best season for the Dukes this year by far while starting all 36 games for the team.
Edwards Jr was a large part of the success of the Dukes this past season, but will now look to play his final year of eligibility elsewhere. The guard should find a home rather quickly due to his versatile play style, and his commitment to playing both sides of the ball.
Despite Past Differences, Edwards Jr Could Become a Welcomed Addition to the Wisconsin Badgers Basketball Program
In the sports world, everything is a business and both players and coaches understand this very well. A large part of sports involves preparing for upcoming games through film and study of the opponent. For Wisconsin basketball, the staff not only learned plenty from Edwards Jr while playing him, but also from studying his film.
Edwards Jr was a pivotal piece of the puzzle when James Madison defeated the Wisconsin basketball team, and Head Coach Greg Gard should have expected that. It is not a major shock that Gard is interested in Edwards Jr due to his skill and fit with Wisconsin, but it would be surprising if he lands in Madison.
Can the Wisconsin Basketball Staff Land Edwards Jr in the Near Future?
Landing a commitment from Edwards Jr could be a rather hard goal to accomplish for the Badgers due to the interest in the guard. Edwards Jr has been in the portal less than a day, and has already amassed plenty of attention from major basketball programs. For the Wisconsin basketball staff, landing Edwards Jr will take not only a lucrative offer, but also plenty of work fending off other programs.
