The Green Bay Packers are heading into a defining season. 2023 proved that Green Bay has the potential to be a contender for years to come with Jordan Love as their starting quarterback, however, it will take years to see if that is truly the case.
Nonetheless, the Packers are doing whatever it takes to put Love in the best situation to succeed. That could mean trading for a proven weapon for this young Packers’ offense.
The Green Bay Packers Acquire Huge Weapon For Jordan Love (Proposal)
In a mock draft simulation by Sayre Bedinger of The Dairy Land Express:
The Green Bay Packers could stick to their process at the wide receiver position and be just fine. They have so much talent at the position with guys like Christian Watson, Jayden Reed, Dontayvion Wicks, Romeo Doubs, and others. There are already a lot of mouths to feed in Green Bay.
But right now, there’s not a go-to threat in the passing game, and that could affect the Packers negatively in the long run.
Trading away someone like Christian Watson, who has failed to differentiate himself consistently over his first two seasons (despite flashes of brilliance) and acquiring a steady playmaker like Tee Higgins or Brandon Aiyuk could take this Green Bay offense to the next level. It could take Jordan Love to the next level. The Packers have 11 picks in this year’s draft and who knows how they are going to fit 11 rookies on the roster?
Trading one of their top three picks in this draft for Higgins or Aiyuk could be a great investment.
Would The Packers Ever Trade Christian Watson
During his rookie season, Watson missed a game due to a hamstring strain, returning too early and aggravating the injury. There was an even worse situation in 2023. A grade 2 hamstring strain occurred right before the regular season, causing him to miss the first three games, and a grade 3 hamstring strain against the Kansas City Chiefs, which caused him to miss five more games.
Despite playing at a higher level in 2022, Christian Watson has struggled to start any season for the Packers.
However, the Packers offense also reached its peak when he was at his best.Only nine games were played by Watson, and his statistics were mediocre: 28 receptions, 422 yards, and five touchdowns.Despite this, Watson was still an effective player on the field.Watson ranked second on the team in receiving yards per game with 46.9, just behind Jayden Reed (49.6) and ahead of Bo Melton, Romeo Doubs, Dontayvion Wicks, and Luke Musgrave.
If Watson can get healthy and stay healthy, it will take this offense to a new level. However, If the Packers choose to trade Watson they would likely asking for significant compensation.
To put it into context, the Packers turned down a trade offer with the Indianapolis Colts for Jonathan Taylor when Christian Watson became the Colts’ asking price.
