Wisconsin Basketball: Keys to Victory For The Badgers Against Difficult 12-Seed JMU

The Wisconsin basketball team is set to take on the 12-seed James Madison Dukes on Friday in Brooklyn.

Wisconsin enters the game as a 5.5 point favorite over the Dukes, but many analysts have picked James Madison to pull off the upset. Regardless of where the money and picks are, Wisconsin basketball will be in for a tough game against a strong, all-around opponent. For Wisconsin, winning will come down to utilizing their size advantage and exploiting the Dukes defense.

Wisconsin basketball will open the NCAA Tournament against a rather tough opponent as James Madison has lost just three times this season. While the Dukes have not played against the best competition, winning 31 games is still an impressive, and intimidating, feat no matter what. The Badgers are ready to take on the Dukes and prove that despite what many analysts say, size truly does matter on the court.

Wisconsin Basketball Must Use Their Height Advantage to Defeat the Dukes

For Wisconsin basketball, the biggest key to defeating the Dukes will be utilizing the size advantage that they have. James Madison has multiple players at 6-foot-8-inches, but nobody above that height has played for them this season. The Dukes lack size, but make up for it with tenacious rebounders and excellent transition play to set up easy baskets.

The Badgers will need to control the boards in order to limit the amount of break-away points the Dukes score. Center Steven Crowl will also be a big key for Wisconsin basketball as he will be the biggest player on the court. Utilizing the height advantage that Crowl has over the Dukes defense could be a wise decision.

Wisconsin Badgers Basketball Should Feed Their Best Scorer AJ Storr

One aspect of play that has been a definite all season for Wisconsin basketball has been feeding AJ Storr. When things are going wrong, or the team needs some juice, the basketball is put into the hands of Storr.

Averaging nearly 17 points per game and leading Wisconsin in scoring, Storr has been a dynamic threat for the Badgers. Whether he is throwing down vicious dunks, or dropping in deep three-point shots, Storr has been a catalyst for Wisconsin basketball as there is no great way to defend him. The biggest issue for Storr this season has been himself, as low percentage shots and forced errors have been what holds him back.

With that being said, James Madison does not have anyone that can confidently guard Storr both size wise and speed wise. Feeding Storr the basketball should be option number one for the Wisconsin basketball offense.
