Wisconsin Basketball: Could a Move For Dynamic Transfer Entry Clifford Omoruyi Make Sense?

One of the more difficult opponents for Wisconsin basketball has no entered the transfer portal, opening up a new possible opportunity.

Former Rutgers center Clifford Omoruyi has announced his intentions to enter the transfer portal after Rutgers struggled this past season. The team had some highs, but it was mostly lows as Omoruyi had a fantastic individual season. The type of basketball being played in college now fits the style of play for Omoruyi, which could attract the Wisconsin basketball staff towards the center.

Wisconsin Basketball Could Look Towards Former Foe Clifford Omoruyi Following Transfer News

After four seasons with the Rutgers Scarlet Knights, the Nigerian center Clifford Omoruyi has announced he will enter the transfer portal. The move does not come as a major shock since Rutgers fell below their own expectations this year. Omoruyi joins a wave of players leaving the program after a 15-17 season that saw the team finish 12th in the Big Ten Conference.

Omoruyi is a former three year starter for Rutgers and has made quite the name for himself within the conference. In four total seasons with Rutgers, Omoruyi shot 54.1 % from the floor, as well as 7.7 rebounds and 1.8 blocks per game. The center greatly improved his defensive game, however, after averaging 2.9 blocks per game this past season.

Omoruyi is by far one of the best transfer portal additions so far, and likely will go off the board fast.

Omoruyi is a Different Type of Player That Wisconsin Basketball Needs

If one thing is certain about the style of play from Omoruyi, it is that Wisconsin basketball can certainly take a page out of his book. Omoruyi is a physical player on both sides of the ball and rarely ever allows easy moves to the basket, except for when AJ Storr flew through the lane. Regardless, Omoruyi is a tough customer whether he is being defender or defending someone else.

Not only is the style of play of Omoruyi fun to watch, but it is also a perfect compliment to how Wisconsin plays. Wisconsin basketball has been a slow-paced, ball movement focused team that has hidden athleticism. The center Omoruyi wears teams and players down, and his style of play could be perfect in a slower-tempo offense.

Can the Wisconsin Badgers Basketball Staff Land Omoruyi in the Future?

There is certainly no doubt that Omoruyi will have plenty of programs involved due to his tenacious rebounding and physical defense. The center offers a style of play that is hard to beat when he has the right players around him.

For Wisconsin basketball, the likelihood of landing Omoruyi seems slim at this point in time. Omoruyi likely would not want to split time with center Steven Crowl. Placing both Omoruyi and Crowl on the floor at the same time is not a terrible idea, but the team would greatly lack speed and transition defense.
