The Wisconsin Badgers are not done with their transfer portal recruiting. After the Badgers landed Nick Evers, many thought Luke Fickell and his staff would be done looking for a QB. However, some pointed out that the QB group lacked experience and could struggle in the short term. Luke Fickell and his staff may have solved that problem. The Wisconsin Badgers are expected to land SMU QB Tanner Mordecai through the transfer portal.
#SMU quarterback Tanner Mordecai entered the transfer portal earlier tonight and is expected to land at #Wisconsin, according to sources. Would be a huge pickup for Luke Fickell and OC Phil Longo.

Wisconsin Badgers Add Tanner Mordecai
Mordecai has spent the last two seasons at SMU. In 2021, he threw for over 3,600 yards and 39 touchdowns. He followed that up this year with another 3,500 yards and a 30+ touchdown season. This season also saw a record-setting performance by Mordecai. In a game against Houston, he threw for 379 yards and a ridiculous 9 touchdowns. He also is fairly athletic rushing for just over 300 yards in his time at SMU. He was basically no. 1 in every passing stat for the American Athletic Conference.
This was Tanner Mordecai’s TD #9 against Houston, for the record.

Who Will Start For The Badgers?
We now have a QB competition on our hands. Mordecai joins a crowded QB room with a lot of talent. The advantage that Mordecai has is his experience. He has multiple 3,000-yard seasons and has shown he can lead a high-powered offense. Because Evers has so many years of eligibility left, Fickell and his staff could easily start Mordecai for a year and then develop Evers to be the QB of the future.
This is a massive get for Fickell and his staff. The biggest knock on Wisconsin was the lack of experience at QB. They now do not have that problem. The QB room may be getting a little crowded but no one ever complains about too much talent in the building. Tanner Mordecai is an amazing get and could be the starter next year for the Wisconsin Badgers.
