It’s a given many fans are expecting Green Bay Packers’ star quarterback Jordan Love to have another great season. The thing is, wide receiver Dontayvion Wicks may have a breakout campaign of his own when the NFL returns later this year.
After a promising rookie campaign in 2023, where he had 22 catches for 341 yards and 3 touchdowns in the final six games, Wicks has caught the eye of Love, who predicted a monster year for the young pass-catcher.

Wicks’ ability to steadily improve throughout his rookie season and make an impact in the playoffs has fueled high expectations for his sophomore year. With the Packers revamping their receiver room, Wicks has an opportunity to establish himself as a top target in the offense alongside other talented pass-catchers.
While the Packers’ receiving corps is loaded with options, Wicks’ ceiling remains high. Furthermore, Love’s confidence in him bodes well for his development as the QB will be instrumental for Wicks to succeed. As the Packers look to build on their success, Wicks will be a key part of their plans, and his potential breakout season could be a significant factor in the team’s offensive firepower in the upcoming year.
Why Green Bay Packers Dontayvion Wicks Is Going To Have a Breakout Season in 2024

At this point in time, it isn’t just Love who’s high on the wide receiver. In an article written by Alex Ballentine for Bleacher Report, Wicks is projected to become even better for the upcoming NFL season.
“The Packers might have unearthed a gem when they took Wicks in the fifth round of the 2023 draft. His raw box score numbers were strong for a Day 3 rookie, as he reeled in 39 passes for 581 yards and four touchdowns.
Wicks was even more impressive when you look at more granular measures like his success rate running different routes. According to Reception Perception, Wicks had a success rate of at least 73.3 percent on seven of the 10 routes they chart.
There are a lot of young receivers on the Green Bay offense, so that stands as a challenge for Wicks to hit his ceiling. However, Wicks’ versatility and success at running a full route tree should give him an advantage over some of the more one-dimensional choices Love has,” Ballentine wrote.
Wicks played college football at Virginia, where he was a standout performer, earning First-team All-ACC honors in 2021. He was then drafted by the Packers in the fifth round of the 2023 NFL draft and made an impact right away, most notably by making a touchdown catch in the team’s postseason victory over the Dallas Cowboys.

With his impressive college and early NFL production, Wicks is poised to become a key contributor for the Packers in the coming seasons. If all goes well, his projected breakout campaign may elevate Green Bay to new heights down the line.
