Many different High School Sports teams took the field on Thursday Evening around the state like a normal evening. But the Green Bay area had something different planned which was unique.
Specifically, the most fun events of the night came from the Fox River Classic Conference and the Fox Valley Association during Baseball and Softball games this evening.
One of the three events being described is a normal thing that happens in Baseball, but the other ones are unique in their own way.
Kaukauna High School Softball Continues Domination but faced challenges
Over the last few years, the Kaukauna Softball team has been in a great strive winning the 2021, 2022 and 2023 WIAA State Softball Championship at Goodman Diamond in Madison.
On Thursday, May 9th, 2024, the Kaukauna Ghosts visited the Neenah Rockets for a Varsity Softball Game at Neenah High School, and it was a dual of its own something Neenah can take away as a win.
The Kaukauna Ghosts come into Thursday’s game with a 98-game winning streak that is correct I just said a 98-game winning streak! According to the national High School Sports website MaxPreps that is the longest in the nation active in High School Softball.
This was one of the more challenging games on the offensive side for Kaukauna as Neenah held them scoreless for eight straight innings, but Neenah was also held scoreless for that time as well by Kaukauna.
Both teams were highlighted by stellar starting pitchers Karly Meredith of Kaukauna and Kyleigh Mathe of Neenah, the crazy thing is they both pitched the entire ten innings that’s how bad both these teams wanted this game.
In the Top of the 10th inning Paige Bodenheimer doubled to give Kaukauna the 1-0 lead and that was enough to give them the win.
Neenah’s Kyleigh Mathe pitched the entire ten innings with six hits, two walks, twelve strikeouts and one earned run. The crazy stat altogether she pitched 160 pitches today!!
Kaukauna’s Karly Meredith once again had a show on the mound. Meredith pitched the complete ten innings with one hit given up and twenty-two strikeouts. At the end of ten innings, Meredith ended up with 120 pitches.
Karly Meredith is the defending Gatorade & MaxPreps Player of The Year for High School Softball in Wisconsin.
Kaukauna advances to 19-0 on the season and their winning streak extends to 99 and that goes back all the way until their last loss which came on May 18th, 2021, against the Neenah Rockets.
Bay Port and Notre Dame Academy did the impossible in High School Baseball
This evening at Bay Port High School the Bay Port Pirates hosted the Notre Dame Academy Tritons in WIAA Baseball Fox River Classic Conference Showdown.
Many of the fans who came out to this game did not expect to see the result the game ended up with.
When looking at the seven innings of play the score situation could be made like the Kaukauna vs Neenah softball game which took place down in Neenah today.
Well…. You see at Bay Port High School this evening the Bay Port Pirates won on a sacrifice bunt that came in the 4th inning by Dylan Heier and that ended up being the game winning play.
Could history be made?!! You see Bay Port might have won 1-0 but both teams do have something to be proud of during this game.
This may seem impossible but both Bay Port and Notre Dame threw a No-Hitter in this game that is correct, what that can’t be true??
Both Avery Duncan, the starter for Notre Dame, and Craig Kabat the starter for Bay Port did not allow a single hit, yes there were still base runners with walks and a couple of errors, but no hits allowed. The Pirates closer Austin Vandeyacht did not break that charm and got the save and completed the double team no hitter.
Bay Port picks up a 1-0 win over Green Bay Notre Dame in a crazy pitchers duel. Both teams threw no hitters, but Bay Port wins on a suicide squeeze.@KabatCraig 6 IP 0 hits 13 ks

This evening at Sunset Park in Kimberly, the Papermakers welcomed the Appleton North Lightning to town a Fox Valley Association Conference foe.
Kimberly comes in as the No. 3 team ranked in the state and Appleton North comes in as the No. 14 team ranked in the state all according to the Prep Baseball Wisconsin rankings.
Both teams exchanged one run in the first inning with a William Hoerner hit that resulted in an error gave the Lightning the 1-0 lead in the top half then in the bottom half the Papermakers scored right back via a double from Braedon Ellefson.
