The San Francisco 49ers quarterback situation was a storyline from training camp last season. The headlines aren’t going away before the 2023 NFL Draft and could feature Aaron Rodgers’ name more prominently. The 49ers handed the keys to Trey Lance last offseason. However, injuries to Lance and Jimmy Garoppolo and exceptional play by Brock Purdy at the end of the season and in the playoffs have changed the landscape. The 49ers are reportedly interested in a quarterback trade this offseason.
The San Francisco 49ers are listening to trade calls for Lance
According to Ian Rapoport with the NFL Network, the 49ers have taken phone calls about trading Lance this offseason.
“Several teams have inquired over the last several days about potentially trading for the former number-three overall pick Trey Lance,” Rapoport said.

Rapoport said the 49ers have taken phone calls, but they did not make the phone calls. No deal is imminent. He said the 49ers could hold on to Lance due to the complications of Purdy’s injury. It is unknown if Purdy can start the season.
That is if Purdy plays in 2023.
Aaron Rodgers has been linked to the 49ers recently
As trade talks between the New York Jets and Green Bay Packers go nowhere, Rodgers’ name has been increasingly linked to the 49ers this offseason. The rumors could be a smokescreen for the Packers, who need leverage in their trade with the Jets to gain precious draft capital. However, there are serious concerns about Purdy’s rehab before the season.
With all of the resources the 49ers have put into their roster, the team is in a position where they need to try to win a Super Bowl in the next couple of seasons. Rodgers could be an option for the 49ers if Purdy cannot return in time for a major chunk of the season. He would be an improvement over Lance.

What would you say to this? The Aaron Rodgers deal with the Jets seems to never get done. SF is field calls on Trey Lance.. why not trade Lance and a pick or two to GB for Rodgers? San Fran is in win now mode.. and Rodgers could push the team over the top.
