The Wisconsin football staff suffered another big injury to the star-in-the-making Xavier Lucas during the Northwestern Wildcats win.
Lucas, a former highly-touted recruit out of Florida, has come into the Wisconsin football program as a true freshman and impressed. The defensive back surprised many with his commitment to Wisconsin in the past, but has now surprised the staff with what he can do at a young age. However, that is when Lucas is able to be on the field for the Badgers.
The young defensive back has been plagued with injuries this season, with a slip and fall during a game sidelining him earlier. Lucas exited the game against the Northwestern Wildcats with an upper body injury, and was ruled out after exiting. The severity of the injury is unknown, but the young defensive back could miss more time this season depending on the results of tests.
Per the broadcast, #Badgers true freshman CB Xavier Lucas is out for the rest of today’s game due to an upper body injury.

Lucas was having a solid game up to that point, with a pass defense against the top Wildcats receiving target. The defensive back also had a tackle during the game before exiting with an upper body injury.
When playing, Lucas has been an effective defensive back in coverage for the Wisconsin football team. Lucas acts as an extra blanket of coverage, and often is tested due to the fact that offenses want to avoid fellow cornerback Ricardo Hallman. In the game against Western Michigan, Lucas notably secure what would be the game-sealing interception for the Wisconsin Badgers.
Wisconsin Football Could Be Without Developing DB Xavier Lucas Again
With the new injury occurring against the Wildcats, the Wisconsin football team could be without Lucas for weeks depending on the severity.
In college athletics, specifics are not needed when it comes to injuries and the staff members of each program do not need to provide any details regarding injuries.
With that being said, many fans often speculate what the injuries could be based on the descriptions the coaches offer. Lucas previously suffered an unlabeled injury, which many were led to believe was a concussion given his fall.
The absence of Lucas could be felt once again as the defensive back has provided a great blanket of coverage for the defense. Without Lucas, Amare Snowden would be the best option to slide into the same role for the Wisconsin Badgers defense moving forward.
The exact injury in this case is unknown as the play in which Lucas was injured on seemed relatively normal. There was not a stoppage in play, meaning the defensive back made it to the sideline under his own power. Likely, an update regarding the status of the defensive back will be provided on Monday when the Wisconsin football staff meets with the media ahead of the practice week.
