NFL News: The 2023 NFL off-season has been wild so far, to say the least. Tom Brady retired, Aaron Rodgers was traded, Lamar Jackson stayed in Baltimore, Ezekiel Elliot was released, Dalvin Cook was released, and DeAndre Hopkins is currently a free agent. Even after all of that, there seems to be one more blockbuster trade brewing in the NFL that would certainly involve a championship-caliber team.
Growing Talk Of A Stefon Diggs Blockbuster Trade Brewing For The Buffalo Bills (NFL News)
The current Buffalo Bills wide receiver, who forced his way out of Minnesota via a trade to the Buffalo Bills, is absent from his team’s mandatory mini camp. He has not shown up for any of the Bills’ offseason programs thus far, and head coach Sean McDermott says that he is “very concerned.” Ian Rapoport broke the news of this development on Twitter. Chris Rosvoglou further elaborated on the superstar wide receiver potentially moving on:
Diggs’ latest move has many people believing he wants out of Buffalo. After all, he has fired off a plethora of cryptic tweets over the past couple of months. While it certainly seems like something is up between Diggs and the Bills, a trade just won’t be easy from a financial standpoint.
The Bills have Diggs under contract through the 2027 season. For that reason alone, the front office has most of the leverage in this situation. Last season, Diggs had 108 receptions for 1,429 yards and 11 touchdowns. It’d be incredibly tough for the Bills to replace that production.
Would The Buffalo Bills Actually Move On From Stefon Diggs? (NFL News)
There really aren’t many contenders that stand out as a possible destination for Stefon Diggs if he is traded. He presumably would want to go to an AFC contender. Even if a team like the Kansas City Chiefs made room for Diggs, would the Bills trade him to Kansas City? Unlikely.
Buffalo would be more likely to send Diggs to the NFC. But which NFC contender would need him? The Eagles and 49ers have their receivers. The Cowboys do, too. It would likely consist of a team with the best trade package offer. Davante Adams, who was traded from the Green Bay Packers to the Las Vegas Raiders last year, commanded a first and second round draft pick.
As Chris Simms noted during Wednesday’s PFT Live, the Giants could make plenty of sense. They need a No. 1 receiver, and they’re coached by former Bills offensive coordinator Brian Daboll.
