NFL news: LeRoy Butler just etched his name in the history books of the Green Bay Packers yet again. On Monday, the organization held its annual shareholder’s meeting in Lambeau Field with nearly 8,000 fans and owners in attendance. One of the most important items on the agenda was Butler officially being named as a part of the team’s Board of Directors.
NFL News: LeRoy Butler Named to Packers’ Board of Directors

Butler was in attendance as he received one of the most prestigious honors from the organization. Having spent many memorable years in a Packers uniform, the former safety was rewarded for his loyalty — even beyond his retirement — by being given a crucial role in the organization.
Packers president and CEO Mark Murphy had nothing but good things to say about Butler as he heaped praise on the Hall of Famer’s invaluable contributions to the franchise through the years:
“I can’t say enough about how much he means to the organization,” said Murphy, via Dennis Krause of Spectrum News. “A player like that, who stayed in the area, is a prominent figure, not only a successful player, a Hall of Fame player, but has gone on to do great things with his life. Yeah, actually we were talking about it coming off the field. Hopefully, people like Dexter McNabb and LeRoy are role models for our current players that football doesn’t last forever.”
Butler himself spoke about this most recent honor, and the 55-year-old admitted that not in his wildest dreams did he ever envision himself as being a Director for one of the most renowned sports teams in all of sports:
“I never really thought I would ever get into the Hall of Fame. I never really thought about being on the board of directors,“ Butler told Spectrum News after the meeting. “But my mom, she said, that’s what you got to expect, things like this.”
NFL News: LeRoy Butler Intends to Put His Platform to Good Use

At this point, it’s all about giving back for LeRoy Butler. He’s had tremendous success as a player as well as in the years after his retirement. He’s earned a few million dollars along the way, too.
Right now, Butler wants to use his platform to good use. He knows that he’s in a position to impact change in more ways than one, and this is exactly what he intends to do.
“I want kids to look like me,” said Butler. “Special needs kids, African-Americans in the projects, single family home in poverty, saying one day you can do this. And I appreciate that. So, I’m kind of like the beacon of light for the kids that want to do great things on and off the field. With this kind of platform, I could really help the people in the Wisconsin area. And then, we want to grow to show other teams how you connect with your fans.”
As they always say, charity begins at home. This is certainly the case for the former Super Bowl champion as he looks to focus on the underprivileged youth that are close to his heart — those that are in his beloved state of Wisconsin. This is also exactly why this man is such a legend.
