LeRoy Butler waited 16 years for the knock on his door. When it came, he slammed it in Charles Woodson’s face in disbelief. Whether he believed it or not, Woodson was there to inform him that, two decades since he retired, LeRoy Butler was a Hall of Famer. Not just in the hearts and minds of Packers (and logical football) fans, but officially in Hall of Fame. On Saturday, August 6, Butler took the stage in Canton to give his induction speech. It was televised on the NFL Network and shared by the Packers Twitter account.

LeRoy Butler’s Hall of Fame Career
There were few safeties as dominant in the 1990s as LeRoy Butler. In fact, it could be argued that he was the best of all of them. Indeed, Butler set the standard for the modern NFL safety. He was the first player in NFL history to amass 20 career sacks and 20 career interceptions. A four-time All-Pro, he also made four Pro Bowls and helped the Packers win Super Bowl XXXI in 1997.
Of course, Butler is also known for inventing the most iconic touchdown celebration in football: the Lambeau Leap.

Of course, the Lambeau Leap is far from the greatest of plays Butler ever made. Here is a highlight video of his best plays curtesy of NFL analyst Mike Kennedy:

LeRoy Butler is the 28th Green Bay Packers player or coach to be inducted to the Pro Football Hall of Fame. Earlier this year, Butler’s former defensive coordinator Fritz Shurmur was honored by the Hall of Fame as a recipient of an Award of Excellence.
