NFL News: The New York Jets and Aaron Rodgers will look to make history in 2023. Just days before the 2023 NFL Draft, the Green Bay Packers and New York Jets came to a massive agreement that sent the four-time MVP out east. This was agreed upon nearly six weeks after Aaron Rodgers declared his intent to play for the Jets in mid-March. Over the years, Rodgers has solidified himself as one of the best quarterbacks on the field, and one of the most controversial ones off the field. That remained true when he was traded to the Jets. One Jets Hall of Famer wasn’t too excited about the move.
New York Jets Hall Of Famer Joe Klecko Changes His Mind About Aaron Rodgers Teaming Up With The Jets
New York Jets defensive legend and 2023 Pro Football Hall of Fame class member Joe Klecko had a change of opinion regarding Aaron Rodgers joining the Jets:
“He’s a different duck,” Klecko said about Rodgers during an appearance on “The Jake Asman Show,” as shared by Charean Williams of Pro Football Talk. “He really is. There’s no doubt. But as far as him as a football player, I’ve always said, as far as an accurate passer, there probably maybe has never been one as good and presently there’s not.
He’s the best accurate passer in the league and a four-time (Most Valuable Player). . . . My only contention was how he was going to get along with the young guys, you know?”
“I made a reference to it, because the team I was on, we grew together,” Klecko explained. “That was really a cool thing because we got along so well. That’s what I was hoping, which he now has shown. He’s ingratiated the rest of the team, and he’s out there teaching guys. He’s doing the things that you see a Tom Brady do. I think he’s going to be a big surprise for everybody in New York.”
What Did Joe Klecko Say About Aaron Rodgers Before The Trade Went Down?
Back in February, Klecko made comments regarding a possible Aaron Rodgers trade:
“I wouldn’t. I don’t see a guy like Rodgers fitting in with that mentality of them kids and everything like that,” Klecko admitted. “I could be wrong, he’s a tremendous quarterback, he’s a smart guy. I just think he could be more of a detriment, I really do.”
“He has that condescending attitude about ‘Why did you give up the route? Don’t stop.’ When you know all these things, and you can help somebody, yeah,” said Klecko. “But he doesn’t do it like that. You could see it on his face on the field how he gets upset with players. “
Whether it was seeing Rodgers in a Jets uniform, the four-time MVP quarterback seemingly getting acquainted with the Jets’ roster faster than expected, or all the players (and offensive coordinator) that Aaron Rodgers brought to the team, the Hall of Famer is now “on board” with AR12 as his quarterback.
