After losing two out of three games, and falling in the final game of the series 5-0 to the Chicago Cubs, the Milwaukee Brewers began a three-game road trip against the Kansas City Royals. During the first bout between these two teams, the Royals took a 3-2 win after scoring all three of their runs during the bottom of the seventh inning. Milwaukee’s offense could not provide the clutch run needed to tie this game up or even take the lead and win.
Milwaukee is now 20-14 after this loss. They are tied with the Cubs for first place in the NL Central. The Royals improve to 21-15 after their 3-2 victory over the Brewers. Kansas City is two and a half games behind the Cleveland Guardians for first place in the AL Central.
Milwaukee Brewers Resentful 3-2 Loss to the Royals
Both teams would be scoreless through the first three innings of this ball game. Milwaukee would take a 2-0 lead during the bottom of the fourth inning when catcher Gary Sánchez blasted a two-run home run to left-center field. The Brewers led this game until the bottom of the seventh inning. First, Royals second baseman Michael Massey hit a solo home run to right field to cut Milwaukee’s deficit. Seven batters later, third baseman Maikel Garcia hit a two-run single that put the Royals back out on top 3-2.
Milwaukee’s offense could not bring across any runs in the last two innings, giving them their third loss in a row. During this loss, this Brewers team only recorded three hits. The offense must do a better job at identifying opposing pitchers’ pitches and getting on base to help their team bring home more runs especially when they need it.
Top Performers from the Brewers 3-2 Loss
Royals starting pitcher Cole Ragans pitched six innings allowing two runs off of two hits, and two walks with eight strikeouts. Maikel Garcia went one for two with two walks, and his two clutch RBIs. Michael Massey went one for three for the Kansas City Royals in the win. For the Brewers, starting pitcher Bryse Wilson pitched six innings allowing just one hit, and three walks while striking out six batters. Willy Adames, Gary Sánchez, and Jackson Chourio were the only three Brewers to record hits during the loss.
Sánchez’s two-run home run could have been the defining moment why the Milwaukee Brewers won this game, however after Jared Koenig gave up three runs on one hit, and a walk, the Brewers offense could not come through when it mattered most. Milwaukee was 15-1 when leading after six innings of action before the Royals came back and strung along a comeback victory.
These Brewers Stars Must Come Through During the Next Two Games
Guys like Willy Adames, Jackson Chourio, William Contreras, and more must step up during the next two games against the Royals if they want to win, and if they want to claim that top spot in the NL Central back. As we head closer to the all-star break it will be vital for the Brewers to try and have a decent size advantage in the standings.
