The Green Bay Packers will be doing whatever it takes to remain competitive in 2024. The latter half of the 2023 season saw the Packers play as well as anyone else in the league. In fact, the team went 7-3 in their final 10 games, which included a massive victory over the Dallas Cowboys in the wild-card round.
Now the Packers will focus on taking their roster to the next level in 2024. One of those moves means moving on from a very fast wide receiver.
The Green Bay Packers Release Wide Receiver During Rookie Minicamps
According to the Packers’ official website:
The Green Bay Packers have signed WR Julian Hicks, OL Lecitus Smith (luh-SEET-us) and WR Dimitri Stanley and released CB Anthony Johnson and DL Deandre Johnson and waived/injured WR Thyrick Pitts (thigh-rick).
The transactions were announced Monday by General Manager Brian Gutekunst.
The Packers Have A Very Deep Wide Receiving Group
Christian Watson, Romeo Doubs, and Jayden Reed are projected to be the starting wide receivers for the Packers in 2024.
In Watson’s third season after being injured for most of last season, the franchise has faith in him to turn things around.
It appears that the Packers will once again have depth at wide receiver outside of the top three players on the roster. There will be three wide receivers in the “second tier” entering training camp: Dontayvion Wicks, Bo Melton, and Malik Heath.
Some people think Dontayvion Wicks could play with the ‘1s during training camp after filling in for Christian Watson last season.
That’s six wide receivers the Packers could very easily take onto their 53-man roster going into week one. It will be stiff competition (which is a good thing) for that position group in Green Bay.
