The Green Bay Packers will have a totally different running back room entering the 2024 NFL season. It is one of the things that Green Bay actually improved with this offseason. The Packers released Aaron Jones this offseason after they signed Josh Jacobs in free agency.
Jacobs is younger and better than Jones is. Aaron Jones was good for Green Bay, but Josh Jacobs won the rushing title a couple of seasons ago with 1,653 yards rushing. He played his first few NFL seasons with the Las Vegas Raiders and he is in a much better situation being with the Green Bay Packers than he is with Las Vegas.

The Green Bay Packers can also contend for a Super Bowl title soon and the Raiders are not close to being there. On Green Bay’s depth chart to start training camp, it will be no surprise that Josh Jacobs is going to be the starting running back. The question will be who will be the second running back behind Jacobs entering training camp.
That is important because head coach Matt LaFleur does like to use two running backs in his offense, Josh Jacobs is more of a three-down running back more than anything else, but not wearing him down will also be important.
Freddie Boston Of Lombardiavenue.com Thinks That Rookie Marshawn Lloyd Will Enter Training Camp As the Number Two Running Back Behind Josh Jacobs For the Green Bay Packers

The Green Bay Packers decided to bring back A.J. Dillon on a one-year deal this offseason at the running back position. He was the second running back on the depth chart last season behind Aaron Jones. This year, it will be different as Freddie Boston of Lombardiavenue.com thinks that rookie Marshawn Lloyd will be the second running back on the depth chart over A.J. Dillon.

Lloyd was a third-round selection (88th overall) in the 2024 NFL Draft out of USC. Some people think that Marshawn Lloyd is the best running back in this draft class. One of the main reasons that Boston has Lloyd over Dillon as the number two running back heading into this season is because:
“The running back depth chart has changed dramatically from last season. Green Bay replaced Aaron Jones with Josh Jacobs and third-round pick MarShawn Lloyd. The rookie has a good chance of securing the No. 2 job ahead of AJ Dillon, as long as he shows enough in pass protection over the summer.”
Pass protection is an important part of this offense for the Green Bay Packers. Quarterback Jordan Love is going to need time to pass the football to get it out to his targets.
However, there is a good chance that the Packers’ Lloyd gets a lot of reps during training camp. Marshawn Lloyd has more upside at this point than A.J. Dillon does. However, having Dillon as the third running back option is much better than having Emanuel Wilson or Patrick Taylor Jr.
