Quarterback Josh Allen recently named who was really to blame in the summer drama with Buffalo Bills wide receiver Stefon Diggs. A new detail emerged from Allen that Diggs was asked to go home during the team’s mandatory minicamp.
Diggs blew up at Allen and his teammates following their Divisional Round loss to the Cincinnati Bengals at home. Diggs has been targeted a lot by Allen in the Bills’ regular season, but he wanted more balls thrown his way during important moments of playoff games. Reports surfaced during the Bills OTAs that Diggs was still frustrated by his role and lack of voice in the offense.
NFL News: Josh Allen Claims Stefon Diggs was asked to leave Buffalo Bills practice
Diggs missed some of the Bills’ mandatory minicamp in June. An inside report came out shortly after minicamp that the Bills were open to trading Diggs if the situation didn’t cool. Allen downplayed the veracity reports during his appearance on the Bussin With The Boys podcast.
“I love Diggs. That’s my guy,” Allen said. “The media has blown this so far out of proportion . We are in minicamp. We’re not playing a game for four months. He doesn’t show up for one day, he’s still there, coach asked him to go home, they’re in talks, they’re trying to resolve some things. They’re still talking about it. Let it go. There’s no reason to continue talking about it.”

Allen’s answer isn’t convincing
There’s quite a bit to unpack in Allen’s rendition of the story. And it would be hard for the media not to blow the story up if what Allen said on the podcast is true. However, I’d certainly like more clarity. Here is a list of questions I want to know more about.
- Which coach asked Diggs to leave?
- Why was Diggs asked to leave?
- Was Diggs asked to leave in connection to the talks to “resolve some things”?
- Have those “some things” been resolved?
- What were those “some things”?
Allen needed to come to the defense of Diggs in the interview. He needs Diggs to be happy and ready to be a good teammate during training camp. But Allen didn’t do a great job of spinning their locker room issues as a media problem.
We have more questions than answers now.
