Kenny Clark: Green Bay Packers Are “100%” Getting Disrespected; Comments on Playing with Jordan Love

There are very few experts that are giving the Green Bay Packers much of a chance to be competitive in 2023. Jordan Love is taking over as the starting quarterback following Aaron Rodgers’ trade to the New York Jets, and the team’s top wide receivers and tight ends are inexperienced.

However, coming into the season under the radar is not always a bad thing. In fact, that is exactly the way Packers two-time Pro Bowl defensive tackle Kenny Clark prefers it.

While appearing on “The Zach Gelb Show” on Friday, Clark responded to questions about people doubting the Packers:

“Yeah, 100% getting disrespected. But that’s cool. I like it that way. This is one of the first offseasons, you know, that we have not really been getting the credit, getting the love.

“You know, everyone says going from Aaron determines whether or not we’re going to win or lose. But we love it. When it comes Week One, when the season’s here, we’ll see how it all stacks up. So we’re excited about it.”

It has not just been doubts regarding Love and the offense, but Clark himself and the Packers’ defense has not been garnering what some might call “the benefit of the doubt” this offseason. The Green Bay run defense was abysmal last season, and Dean Lowry and Jarran Reed departed in free agency.

They will be replaced by second-year player Devonte Wyatt, a first round pick in the 2022 NFL Draft. In addition, Karl Brooks and Colby Wooden from this year’s draft may play big roles in determining if the defense improves.

Clark was then asked about Jordan Love and what he has shown to the players in the locker room:

“Man, he’s just been steady, coming into work. He’s going to be a great player, you know. Excited about everything that he brings to our team.

“He’s definitely a leader. He comes in every single day and works his a– off. I think that’s what the guys respect about him. That’s what everybody loves about him.

“He’s got that quiet swag, that quiet confidence. Everybody feeds off of that, so I can’t wait to get out there with Jordan.”

Clark is just one more Packers player that has said some pretty encouraging things about Love so far this offseason. Aaron Jones, AJ Dillon, Jaire Alexander, Rashan Gary, and Romeo Doubs particularly have been very outspoken about how impressed and how great Love is.

Critics of Love claim that his teammates are not going to say anything negative about Love. However, it is interesting that all of them have said the same thing at various times throughout the offseason. Unless they all sat down to coordinate what they were going to say, it is highly unlikely that the praise they have for their new starting quarterback is false.

“He’s going to be great,” “He’s a great leader,” and “He works hard every day,” are all things that every teammate has said about him.

Not everyone will believe it, and disrespect will still be thrown their way. But that’s okay.

    They prefer it that way.
