The Green Bay Packers are not getting much love from the national media nor the Las Vegas sportsbooks. For weeks, the over/under for Packers wins in 2023 has been set at just 7.5. Of course, this win total would likely not be good enough for the team to make the NFL Playoffs.

The sportsbooks are being equally unkind to new Green Bay starting quarterback Jordan Love as well. The enormous amount of uncertainty surrounding how much he has really improved and the team’s young core of pass catchers have led for his over/under passing numbers to fall in FanDuel’s latest update.
Green Bay Packers Quarterback Jordan Love’s Passing Over/Under

According to Sports Illustrated‘s Bull Huber, FanDuel had Love’s over/under for passing yards set at 3,400.5 back in May. Now in July, the reputable sportsbook has updated that number to 3,332.5. Additionally, Love’s over/under number for touchdowns has gown from 22.5 down to 21.5.

Those Numbers Center on Whether Jordan Love Will Be Average, Not Bad
For reference of where those numbers would place Love among NFL quarterbacks, 3,332 passing yards would have been good for 15th in the NFL last season. Additionally, 21 passing touchdowns would have been good for 15th in NFL in 2022.
There are 30 starting quarterbacks in the NFL.
In other words, FanDuel is asking bettors to gamble on Love being above average or below average. In a sense, that makes sense. He has not had much playing time in three years, though he has had more snaps in the NFL than Aaron Rodgers did when he took over in 2008.

Can Jordan Love and the Green Bay Packers Beat the Odds?

Fortunately for Love and the Packers, they actually have a fairly favorable schedule when it comes to facing 2022 NFL Playoff teams. They do not face a 2022 Playoff team until Week Eight against the Minnesota Vikings. The other Playoff teams the face this year are the Los Angeles Chargers, New York Giants, Kansas City Chiefs, and Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
Aside from only facing five playoff teams, the teams they do play in 2023 did not have the best passing defenses in 2022. Below is a list of the Packers’ 2023 opponents and their passing yards and passing touchdowns given up per game:
- Chicago Bears: 218.6 yards, 1.3 touchdowns
- Atlanta Falcons: 231.9 yards, 1.5 touchdowns
- New Orleans Saints: 184.4 yards, 1.0 touchdowns
- Detroit Lions: 245.8 yards, 1.5 touchdowns
- Las Vegas Raiders: 242.9 yards, 1.5 touchdowns
- Denver Broncos: 210.2 yards, 1.2 touchdowns
- Minnesota Vikings: 265.5 yards, 1.4 touchdowns
- Los Angeles Rams: 226.0 yards, 1.4 touchdowns
- Pittsburgh Steelers: 222.3 yards, 1.7 touchdowns
- Los Angeles Chargers: 200.4 yards, 1.6 touchdowns
- Detroit Lions: 245.8 yards, 1.5 touchdowns
- Kansas City Chiefs: 220.9 yards, 1.8 touchdowns
- New York Giants: 214.0 yards, 1.3 touchdowns
- Tampa Bay Buccaneers: 203.6 yards, 1.8 touchdowns
- Carolina Panthers: 227.5 yards, 1.5 touchdowns.
- Minnesota Vikings: 265.5 yards, 1.4 touchdowns
- Chicago Bears: 218.6 yards, 1.3 touchdowns
These totals add up to 3,843.3 passing yard and 24.7 touchdowns. Therefore, it is entirely possible, based on Green Bay’s opponents’ 2022 passing defense stats, that Love goes over both FanDuel’s over/under props for him.
This is not gambling advice, but a simple statement of the numbers. Some of these teams may have improved over the offseason. Others might be worse.
In any case, the numbers are very intriguing.
