It’s no secret that the Milwaukee Bucks have disappointed this year after going all-in on All-Star guard Damian Lillard. With the offseason coming up, the team has a better chance of contending if they go for Chicago Bulls’ Alex Caruso to improve their backcourt.
Last season, Milwaukee broke the league when they sent out a package headlined by Jrue Holiday to the Portland Trail Blazers for Lillard. The wisdom then was that two-time MVP Giannis Antetokounmpo needed a capable backcourt partner who can be deadly on offense and close out games with him.
Throughout 73 games this season, Lillard’s numbers have been more than enough to help Antetokounmpo and the Bucks. In that period, the All-Star averaged 24.3 points, 4.4 rebounds, and 7.0 assists. He also connected 42 percent from the field, 35 percent from beyond the arc, and 92 percent from the free throw line.
Unfortunately, injuries and coaching changes played a part in disrupting Milwaukee’s momentum during the regular season. Even though they finished with a top three seed in the Eastern Conference, they were still unable to advance due to the Indiana Pacers being the better team in the first round. With the offseason starting for them, the Bucks will have to think hard on who to get to prevent an early elimination again.
Chicago Bulls’ Alex Caruso Named as Milwaukee Bucks Top Target This 2024 Offseason
While the Bucks are projected to lose some of their guys in the current lineup, they’re also expected to explore the market to get a capable player for next season. Chief among them is Chicago Bulls guard Alex Caruso, as seen in an article written by Zach Buckley for Bleacher Report:
“The defensive dynamo would be a big step toward fixing the many miscues this backcourt has encountered on the game’s less glamorous end. Even better, Caruso can provide those stopping skills without mucking up the offense or blowing up the payroll.
He knows how to blend his skills in ways that he doesn’t step on the toes of stars but does make a positive impact alongside them. His motor is always full-throttle. His three-ball has been as good as ever (career-high 136 triples on 40.8 percent shooting). His processing skills are sharp enough to serve as a secondary playmaker. He’ll hustle his way into rebounds or transition points,” Buckley wrote.
Currently, the Bucks have Malik Beasley and Patrick Beverley as the two other guards that can pair up with Lillard. While both of these stars contribute on both ends of the court, Caruso can be productive on both offense and defense at a level the Bucks need to actually become a better team.
Fans will have to wait for the playoffs to end to see if this trade can materialize or not. In any case, Caruso will be a dream trade for Milwaukee and one that can instantly raise the team’s ceiling.
