1. Aaron Donald to the Detroit Lions
The Lions added to their anemic pass rush in last year’s draft when they took Aiden Hutchinson. He recorded 9.5 sacks in his rookie year, and he should be better in his second year in Detroit. The Lions still need help on the interior part of the defensive line after a 2022 season where they had the 16th-best pass rush.
The Lions passed over Jalen Carter in this year’s draft. They opted to take running back Jahmyr Gibbs and linebacker Jack Campbell instead of strengthening their defensive line. The Lions projected starters at defensive tackle are Alim McNeill and Isaiah Buggs.
The Lions are the favorite to win the NFC North this summer. But that doesn’t mean much when it comes to being called a Super Bowl contender, as the division should be weak overall. Trading for Donald would cement the Lions’ defense as a true contender in the playoffs.
The Lions still have over $22 million in cap space to play with. They have the money to add a three-time Defensive Player of the Year to the roster.
