The Green Bay Packers have signed several undrafted free agents to try and compete for a spot on the 53-man roster for the upcoming 2024 season. Green Bay has had at least one player to make the roster as an undrafted free agent for the last 19 years.
A season ago, the Packers had three undrafted players make the roster. Will see how many will crack the Green Bay Packers roster this season. It would be an amazing streak if it were to be 20 years in a row. Many people have given different opinions on who has the best chance to crack the Green Bay Packers roster.
The Athletic Thinks That Former Michigan Wolverines Offensive Tackle Trente Jones Is the Player To Watch For During Training Camp On the Green Bay Packers
With the NFL Draft in the rearview mirror and with also teams signing undrafted free agents, many analysts are giving predictions about which undrafted free agents will make the roster or at least have a great chance to make it. Nick Baumgardner and Scott Dochterman wrote an article on The Athletic about which undrafted player each team should watch out for this summer.
The reason why they think Trente Jones is the player to watch for in camp is because:
“Jones was good enough to start at other Big Ten schools but stuck with Michigan as a sixth offensive lineman from 2021 to 2023. He earned consistent time for a program that won three Big 10 titles and one national title during that stretch, and he made postseason starts for the Wolverines last winter. Jones (6-4, 310, 33-inch arms, 10 1/8-inch hands) plays with inconsistent technique, in part because he moved around so much. Put on the Alabama tape from the Rose Bowl, though — Jones is a people-mover when given time.”
Green Bay is going to need to find depth on the offensive line. It is going to be one of the biggest question marks heading into Green Bay Packers training camp this summer. There is a lot of shuffling yet to be determined for this group that will have high expectations.
Some of the strengths Trente Jones has according to nfldraftbuzz.com is as follows:
“Good burst and strength; effectively fires off the snap, showcasing athleticism.
- Strong run blocker; excels at reaching and engaging second-level defenders.”
- Some of the weaknesses he has are:
While his physical measurements are solid, he struggles with larger defenders. Lacks extensive experience as a starter.”
The Green Bay Packers may try him at both tackle and guard. We will see what suits him best when training camp rolls around in July.
