Patrick Beverley has always attracted controversies over the course of his NBA career. But the Milwaukee Bucks star’s recent incident of throwing a ball at an Indiana Pacers fan has caught the attention of the police as an investigation is well under way.
Even before the postseason started, there was animosity brewing already between Milwaukee and the Pacers. Their first round series provided a stage for that growing beef to fester as the two side slugged it out in six games before the 2021 champions were eliminated.
Unfortunately, All-Star forward Giannis Antetokounmpo wasn’t available due to a calf strain. His absence placed more pressure and workload on starting point guard Damian Lillard, causing him to miss half of the series due to an ankle injury. And while other players stepped up, such as Khris Middleton, Bobby Portis, Brook Lopez, and Beverley, the Pacers proved to be too much for Milwaukee in the end.
During Game 6, things took a turn for the worse as Beverley engaged a fan heckling at him by throwing a ball towards his direction. Furthermore, the veteran guard refused to answer ESPN producer Malinda Adam‘s questions and asked her to leave after learning she wasn’t subscribed to his podcast.
Indianapolis Police Have Started Investigating Ball-Throwing Incident Between Milwaukee Bucks’ Patrick Beverly and Indiana Pacers Fan
While Beverley has resolved the situation with Adams, his incident with the Pacers fan has caught the attention of local police authorities. In a post Shams Charania shared on X:
“Indianapolis Police is investigating the incident between Patrick Beverley and a fan during Game 6 of Bucks-Pacers series; detectives confirm to me and @MikeVorkunov they are working with Gainbridge Fieldhouse to review video footage and plan to speak with the parties involved,” Charania tweeted.
Beverley has already apologized for his actions, both on social media and on an episode of his podcast. Moreoever, he and the Bucks have respectively reached out to Adams and ESPN to diffuse the situation.
It remains to be seen what the police’s investigation will end up with. For Beverley, though, it’s going to be a long offseason, especially with his contract for the Bucks now expired.
