A Green Bay Packers insider is predicting a defender will return this season and immediately impact the defense. The Packers will rely on their defense to stay competitive through the early part of the season in quarterback Jordan Love’s first year starting.
The Packers have a couple of defenders still rehabbing from injuries. Even with Eric Stokes and Rashan Gary being out of practice, that side of the ball is still winning at practice. However, the defense still needs Gary back this season. He should be back in a few weeks.
Rashan Gary is predicted to have a significant impact on the Green Bay Packers
Bill Huber with Sports Illustrated made ten predictions before the 2023 season. Huber thinks Gary will be back for Week 1 against the Chicago Bears. And he believes he makes an impact in the game:
Predicting Rashan Gary will be on the field for Week 1 at Chicago isn’t bold at all. So, let’s up the ante and say he takes down Justin Fields in the opener. Gary is opening training camp on the physically unable to perform list but he’ll be ready to roll for the season.
“It’s going to be hard to hold him back,” general manager Brian Gutekunst said on Tuesday. “He’s ready to go. He wants to keep pushing and he will. But, at the same time, we’ll start him off in these next two (or) three weeks and kind of see where he’s at. I wouldn’t put anything past him because he’s a different kind of guy.”
The Packers need Gary back in Week 1. The Packers have Preston Smith, but the team would prefer to have Gary start alongside him instead of having Lukas Van Ness have to start as a rookie in his first-ever game. Van Ness will be good, but he needs time to mature in the Packers system.
It would be a big comeback for Gary to be able to create a sack in his first game back from his ACL injury. But he was having an excellent start to the season before the injury last season. Gary could easily keep the momentum going in his first game back.
