The Green Bay Packers are hosting the New England Patriots for joint practices ahead of their preseason game against each other on Saturday. The joint practices present the players with the opportunity to get live reps in against players from other teams. Green Bay previously took part in a joint practice in Cincinnati against the Bengals ahead of their preseason game last Friday.
That particular joint practice was highlighted by Pro Bowl left guard Elgton Jenkins getting into two separate fights with Bengals defenders. Now, Patriots wide receiver JuJu Smith-Schuster seems to be stirring the pot in regards to two-time Pro Bowl cornerback Jaire Alexander.
New England Patriots Wide Receiver JuJu Smith-Schuster Is Looking Forward to Facing Green Bay Packers Cornerback Jaire Alexander
This will be Smith-Schuster’s first experience with joint practices. He told reporters on Sunday,
“It’s actually fun it’s my first time doing this, practice with another team during training camp. I’m excited to go out there, you know new guys, since we’ve been going against each other for the past months.”
He is especially excited to go up against Alexander. When discussing matching up against the two-time Second Team All-Pro, Smith-Schuster had this to say:
“Jaire, he’s a really good player man. I’ll give that to him. He’s probably, what he would say is, a lockdown corner. All I can say, I mean, he’s a good player. I can’t wait to go against him this week.”
It certainly sounds like Smith-Schuster was about to start some trash talk with the “what he would say is,” comment. As often as he admitted Alexander is a good player, he fell short of admitting that he is one of the best in the league.
Alexander recently was part of a video in which he was asked which wide receivers were tough for him to guard. His answer was none of them.
The Packers’ cornerback is not one to shy away from letting people know about how good he is. He even had to be talked down during a Packers’ practice after jawing at Jordan Love following an interception. That’s just who he is.
If Smith-Schuster is going to talk some trash, he should just go for it and not hint at anything. One can bet Alexander is going to be extra hyped for joint practices now.
