Several Green Bay Packers players have been publicly complimentary of Jordan Love this offseason. These remarks have been taken one of two ways. Either fans get excited about them, or they claim that the players are just saying those things because they are teammates.
That is why the remarks that were made by Bengals players, and one Bengals player in particular, are extremely interesting. They have nothing to gain from speaking highly of Love. Why would players from another NFL team speak highly of Love if were not true?
Cincinnati Bengals Defensive Lineman DJ Reader Has High Praise of Green Bay Packers Quarterback Jordan Love

Cincinnati Bengals defensive lineman DJ Reader made waves on social media during the first joint practice with the Packers because of his fight with Green Bay offensive lineman Elgton Jenkins. After practice, he was not very complimentary of Jenkins, for obvious reasons. However, he did have some really eye-opening things to say about Packers quarterback Jordan Love:
“He seemed more confident under center. He seemed like he was feeling good. The offense was doing what it was doing. He was having a good day. He looked decent back there.
“He wasn’t just running to take off, wasn’t doing any of that stuff. He was trying to go through his reads. We did a good job of staying off him. I think he was decent.
“He had a good demeanor back there. I look at a lot of quarterbacks and see what they’ve got going on, especially because I’m right there on the ball. He had a good demeanor and things like that.”
A NFL quarterback can only be successful is he is calm and collected when things get fast and he gets under duress. Reader said, “The offense was doing what it was doing. He had a good day.” What he was referring to was that the offense struggled against the Cincinnati defense, but Love was not one of the players that was struggling.
When looking at comments praising Love, one really should take those from defensive players to heart the most. It is the defense’s job to make the quarterback’s life difficult. If they come away saying good things about that quarterback, they’re true.
It is reminiscent of the aftermath of last season’s game against the Philadelphia Eagles. Of course, that was Love’s breakout game, and the moment the Packers knew they were going to move forward with him and on from Aaron Rodgers in 2023.
After the game, Darius Slay, the Eagles’ star cornerback talked about Love on his podcast: “Green Bay got a bright future, because buddy was slinging it.”
Again, Slay had nothing to gain from saying positive things about Love. Neither does Reader.
Maybe, just maybe, the Packers have someone special under center again.
