The Packers enter free agency with a lot of questions. One of them centers around their wide receiver room. Romeo Doubs and Christian Watson have been great but they need a veteran presence in the room. One analyst predicts that the Packers will look to free agency to fill the need and sign Chiefs and former Steelers wide receiver JuJu Smith-Schuster.
Packers Predicted To Sign JuJu Smith-Schuster
Smith-Schuster signed a one-year deal with the Chiefs but many think that he will be looking for a multi-year deal this year. The Packers would be able to offer that and most likely get him relatively cheap. Smith-Schuster fits right into what Green Bay is trying to do. Smith-Schuster can play in the slot and has great receiving numbers but he can also block well in the running game. This is a huge part of Matt LaFleur’s offense in Green Bay.
Upgrade From Lazard
I love Allen Lazard but JuJu Smith-Schuster is a better receiver. In his career, he has just under 5,000 yards receiving and 29 touchdowns. He is capable of having huge games and did so for the Steelers. In his best season, he had 1,426 receiving yards and 7 touchdowns earning him Pro Bowl honors. Lazard has never put up those kinds of numbers and Smith-Schuster also run blocks well.
There are many other options at receiver. Fans and analysts have been clamoring for GM Brian Gutekunst to trade for De’Andre Hopkins. However, Smith-Schuster could be a much more affordable pickup for Green Bay. This offseason is full of options and it will be interesting to see what Gutekunst will do.
